ABELARDO MORELL MUSEUM

The museum is dedicated to the photographer Aberlado Morell who made a wide range of photo collections such as “camera obscura”, “books“ and “tent camera“. We want to propose a museum that could best capture his spirit as well as let more people know about his art works.

How can we communicate the works to the public? How can we manage the programs of the museum with respect to that of the linear site? How can we provide people the unique experiences of viewing the exhibitions that are different from that of other museums? I adopted the triangular theme that may fit the situation since it has both the potential of aggregation and sense of new rationlism. The starting point of the project is gradient studies which features a series of algorithmic gradient line drawings. By taking clues from 2-dimension drawings and develop massing of 3-dimension buildings.

Inspired by Jewish Museum, the window “strips“ reflect the triangular panels inside and combine them in a way that gives audiences the sense of complexity and disorientation. The three steps are the process of making the window. The shadows cast down to the lobby area interact with the photos which makes it even more dynamic.

The series sectional cuts reflects the experience a person would have com- ing into the gallery and how they would interact with the surrounding spaces that gives them a disoriented feeling similar to the photography works made by Abelardo Morell.

The axonometric drawing reflects to the abstract conditions of the interior walls and exterior window patterns. The fragment of each shape is rotated and exploded which creates the sense of unorganized, ambiguous feeling from regular architecture.
