Community Housing for Ghana Volunteer Nursing Students
The community houses located in Have, Ghana are designed for local families and visitors coming from other countries. The site is located around a medical center and services in Have and there are four housing units with two of which are permanent for local families and two other for interns and visitors. Based on the requests of clients and traditions, they want a sharing outdoor kitchen area and bathhouse unit. Besides that, people normally spend more time outdoors than indoors which makes the individual units more like living quarters.
The main concept is LAYERING, which is built upon their unique living styles and the tension between public and private. The communal kitchen and bathhouse units consist of the first core layer. While the second layer contains the four individual housing unit made of mudbricks, the third one is the fabric built not only to protect from the strong sunlight but also give individual unit some private spaces to enjoy the greeneries and sunlight.
